In just 2 short years MKEY, the musical alias of Scottish DJ Mikey Watson, has already started to gain recognition. With blistering technical ability and the innate knowledge of how to work a dance floor he has already begun to make his moves in the electronic music scene. Despite his early musical experiences being far more traditional, he played bagpipes to a world class level, MKEY’s passion has always been electronic music.
MKEY’s sound sits firmly in the realms of underground house music, sometimes deeper and minimalistic right through to solid, grooving tech house. Each of his sets has nods toward his influences within the underground scene. Ranging from the established names such as Steve Lawler and Hot since 82 to more underground artists such as Bizen Lopez.
Predominantly based in the South East he has steadily made his mark both locally and in nearby London playing a host of guest slots in some of London’s most established clubs, including Ministry of Sound, Egg and Fire. During which he has supported international acts including Hernan Cattaneo, 3D, Doorly and Pawsa. After featuring in articles from Ibiza Club News and Rate My Rave in Summer 2018 it wasn’t long before he made his Ibiza debut at superclub Eden as well as regular appearances across the island. This was alongside other international appearances in Cyprus as well as a festival booking in Malta this year.
MKEY has run his own night in the past which although being resident in Guildford ventured in to London and Ibiza. Recent showcases showed that MKEY is as skilled in putting on a party as he is providing the soundtrack to it. MKEY is also about to start hosting his own show on Select Radio, starting in July. This is where MKEY will be showcasing his sound and keeping you occupied between 6-8pm each and every Wednesday.
The Summer of 2018 saw MKEY take his first foray into production his debut this release broke into the Beatport top 30 on the Tech House Releases. He already has a number of steady releases on labels such as Kulture Records, Whoyostro, Made Crazy and Serena Music which seen his EP on the Columbian label reach number one on the Minimal / Deep Tech Release Chart. Rounding off his own unique sound will see MKEY settle in to his own productions over the rest of 2019 and beyond.
It is clear that with his work ethic, determination and skill there is no limit to what MKEY can achieve in 2019.
